Few Petro Facts for Starters-1

What are Supermajors?
Ans: Supermajors/Big Oil is a term referred to a group of 6 international oil companies which happen to be the world's largest private oil and gas companies.
They are:-
1.)B.P(U.K)
2.)Chevron Corporation(U.S)
3.)Exxon Mobil(U.S)
4.)Royal Dutch Shell(Netherlands)
5.)Total S.A(France)
6.)Conoco Philips(U.S)
They also are the most widely known and visible ones. We have petrol pumps of these companies in almost the whole world.Lubricants, oils, u name it , they have it all.
They are present in the entire value chain(Upstream,Midstream,Downstream).

But shockingly , they are not the top companies in terms of production or estimated reserves!!!!!
The biggest ones are the NOC'S(National Oil Companies).
It is a paradox ain't it? Govt. companies being the best ?
Ya it is.
Atleast in our field.
Saudi Aramco,NICO(National Oil Company,Iran),ChinaPEC are some of them.
The complete list will be provided soon.
Now it should not be hard to understand why politics and other world events affect us so much....
But we should remember fuel prices is dependent on a number of factors, which will be explained in a later post.
'Neways I thot of a new tagline:-Oil is Well'

  3. @RJD.... LEt me bring it to your notice, here the total BPD( Barrels per day ) production is not taken into consideration, ie it doesnt matter what quantity of oil you produce. More importance lies in the technology you use to access the oil in the most dangerous situations as well. For, eg drilling in frigid regions such as Russia, Alaska. It is totally impossible without proper research to attain production in such areas...

The names such as Aramco, ADCO, NICO.... these companies are in the Middle East, hence the vast availability of HCs ( HYdrocarbons)... FYI these companies use Shell's technology and research...

All i am saying is," It is easy to produce with abundant resources but is challenging to produce with no resources."

  5. @chintan... i dont know about the actual stats but from the production capacity i dont think any indian company comes in the top 20... let me bring to your notice that approx 70% oil is imported from the KSA(Saudi Arabia)... so you can guess the rest 30% is a total of production by companies like IOC, Oil India, ONGC,Essar, Reliance, etc...
even though ONGC still tops the chart of oil producing Indian company... I can say that this is only possible because ONGC has Bombay High, take it away and ONGC will thud to the ground...
