Be an optimist...why ? Because, even a +ve delusion will help you...

Well, this is not a petroleum or movies or music related stuff...this article points out why it's always better to be an optimist rather than a pessimist...Even living in a false but optimistic delusion along with sensible acts will help a lot...

How is oil formed ?

Although, no one can surely say how petroleum or oil is formed, the most widely accepted theory is that it is formed by chemical alteration of organic matter subjected to high T&P(temperature & pressure) conditions...Pressure is generated by the deposition of sedimentary layers on the organic matter and heat from mantle portion of the Earth...

Geologic info...

I don't know how I bumped into this link, but it is a wonderful, useful all-in-one link to solve most of your doubts(including that of metamorphism RJD asked me today)..let this page load fully..its a big one...then save it as HTML web page...will be useful for exams too...
http://www.indiana.edu/~geol105/1425chap5.htm(Courtesy: Indiana University)

To those, who are unfamiliar, metamorphism is a geological process, which involves changes in rocks due to various factors...for example, limestone gets metamorphosed and forms marble...The various factors can be heat, chemicals, impact, etc.

White House Weekly press release-Obama stresses for clean energy and reduced oil and gas prices

Let's start

Let's see...I don't know where to start, but all I can say is, mostly, we'll be posting the songs which are good but not very popular...so, here, I mention 2 songs, contrasting moods of each other...one is Koi Chehra sung by Adeel who is an emerging singer. This song is released under TIPS, you will find it on its Youtube channel. It is a very pleasant song, although theme is a bit sad but the song is not...another is Ji Lia sung by Akash which is a short song but very high in emotions...enjoy...

Few Petro Facts for Starters-1

What are Supermajors?
Ans: Supermajors/Big Oil is a term referred to a group of 6 international oil companies which happen to be the world's largest private oil and gas companies.
They are:-
1.)B.P(U.K)
2.)Chevron Corporation(U.S)
3.)Exxon Mobil(U.S)
4.)Royal Dutch Shell(Netherlands)
5.)Total S.A(France)
6.)Conoco Philips(U.S)
They also are the most widely known and visible ones. We have petrol pumps of these companies in almost the whole world.Lubricants, oils, u name it , they have it all.
They are present in the entire value chain(Upstream,Midstream,Downstream).

But shockingly , they are not the top companies in terms of production or estimated reserves!!!!!
The biggest ones are the NOC'S(National Oil Companies).
It is a paradox ain't it? Govt. companies being the best ?
Ya it is.
Atleast in our field.
Saudi Aramco,NICO(National Oil Company,Iran),ChinaPEC are some of them.
The complete list will be provided soon.
Now it should not be hard to understand why politics and other world events affect us so much....
But we should remember fuel prices is dependent on a number of factors, which will be explained in a later post.

First Note,First Take,First Strike

Welcome Fellow Bloggers to RRR(Raag,Reel and Rig)
Why RRR?
4 simple reasons:-
1.)We love Petroleum(I hope so,Chintan r u listenin????)
2.)We love Movies(atleast our broadband bills suggest that!!!!!)
3.)We love Music(Ya v do,Chintan loves it d most :-D)
4.)We love to OPINE(express opinions) and to argue!!!!!!
Now ,this is your chance to debate and share new things. This is the new 'happening' place to vent your anger, express joy and blah blah blah..........
RIP Facebook coz RRR is here :p:p:p:p!!!!!!!!
On a serious 2nd 'NOTE'
Before joining PDPU many people told me that petroleum would limit your career options.
I beg to differ from their opinion , in just 2 semesters I have realised that our industry is so vast that maybe even in 50 lifetimes we wouldn't be able to cover all the aspects.
Right from Geophysics,Geology,Exploration,Seismic Engineering,Earth Science,Chemical Engineering,Electrical,Mechanical,Instrumentation and Control,Drilling,Production,Transportation,Refining, the vast realm of petrochemicals, the management side to all the above, the marketing, the branding ,the challenging field of Reservoir Engineering and what not............
Petroleum Engineering is a bloody vast field..........
That kaka who told me that it is not is surely not an O&G person as our dear sir Vinay Babu calls.
Neways, so guys ,the road up ahead is challenging, but it can be fun.
One more point, as pointed by many experienced professionals(not necessarily O&G persons) and who also happen to be parents of our classmates have told that in any Petroleum Engi. course ,no prof is going to go in the 'real' depth of the subject topic , and now after experiencing 2 sems u sure wud agree:-D!!!!!!!
So guys, we hve 2 paths, either to crib about this stuff like most of our batchmates , or to really do something abt it.......
Ok as im d only one online nw, on behalf of our group i chose d 2nd path!!!!!!!!!
congrats to all of us!!!!!!
Ok.
Now what exactly do v do?
Simple, we use our respective strengths to unravel the mysteries of our field.
1.)Chintan Verma-Superb brain(though hyper!!), superb use of the internet
2.)Harshil-Dad in the industry, 1st hand knowledge, plus he becomes our middle east correspondence and also our dunkin donuts supplier(until they open one in ahmedabad, india me they r launching soon )
3.)Rohan-Known to give good ideas(like this one), inquisitive mind who has explored the field outside the classroom a bit(no EARTH SCIENCE DOUBTS WILL BE ENTERTAINED IN NE CASE)
4.)Casa-Good brain and a potential information gathering system

We start from the basics. We share all the knowledge that we have got till date(Revise ur IPE notes if u want) , cement our fundamentals and then go for the challenging fields.
General Awareness is very important in our field, everyday u hve news of sme discovery and something and something........
We need to be updated.
Also the industry shares a strong relationship with money, power and politics, we need to explore that angle too.
Sparing half an hour for the things you love shudn't be hard na????
Ok enough for now.
For movies and music, it aint that complicated , we discuss the nuances of filmaking, share new things, technical and non technical with each other, review movies, discuss potential plots, discuss new songs and so on and so forth................

Thank you for being part of this blog, look forward a great journey.....
(Hope this blog helps us in the interviews we would be facing after 6th semester)
Enjoy!!!!!

Flash forward

We all use a term "flashback" as it is very common. It means visualizing something from the past. Similarly, there is a term "flashforward" which means visualizing something that will happen. It might be your own perception or someone making you visualize that...On the basis of this concept, an American TV series called Flashforward aired on ABC in 2009, it depicts a flashforward..I haven't seen an episode yet...but seems to be interesting, what do you say ?
